From Howie again

This is kind of late, but I don't think Howie minds. Again, I won't hold anyone to the last step if they want just my response.

1. Comment with any subject that you would like me to rant on, with possible definite swearing involved. Any subject - I don't even have to agree with it.

2. Watch my journal for your rant. (Unless I just can't muster up a rant for your subject, so don't suggest something you KNOW I'll disagree with you over, unless you want me to take the flip side of the argument.)

3. Post this in your own journal, so that you may rant for others. The end.

Pirate toys

Let's see what you'll come up with :)

How about cookbooks? I don't think that's one you would have come up with.

You and _fairest are being kinda mean with your neutral, non-issue nouns. :) In contrast, Howie gets requests for rants on movie trends and such.

Non-issue?? I get seriously mad about pirate toys and all of the other mean, aggressive crap aimed at little boys. It's like saying, "Here, tiny boy, identify with the mean, violent toys & games, but don't you dare exhibit the same behavior!" And later on "Gee...why is our little boy so rude?" (TV sitcoms and cartoons are often little more than put-down contests. How much of this is allowed in the average home?) And as an adult, you get the Jeffrey Dahmers (hyperbole to make a point) whose parents are scratching their heads.

There is an anti-male-ism in our culture that bugs the heck outta me. So I guess pirate toys are just the tip of my ranting iceberg.

(Ranting icebergs? Sheesh, I need coffee!)

Sorry. It occurred to me later what you were getting at, and I have since come up with ample rantage, my style. Stay tuned.

Dude, "cookbooks" is serious. I could ask you for "birthcontrol education in public schools" or something- but I don't really care what you think about some political issue, I'm looking for your reaction to something that is in your life, and I'm pretty sure that you have some kind of relationship with cookbooks in your life, and that maybe this relationship is under-examined. You apparently don't cook much, but show an interest in "practical knowledge", and you edited technical texts- how do you feel about the technical texts of the kitchen? Is there something going on this arena, or nothing going on, WHY? Rants have to be personal to be good, if not, than its an essay. I want a rant- how you've banged your head, how you've wasted your time, how you just couldn't engage... with cookbooks.

Okay, I do appreciate you not talking about anything as serious as birth control. It's just that cookbooks are all but absent from my life, for no interesting reason. But since I like you, I'll give it a shot.

Your rant had better include why they are absent, and how you feel about. :)

Not that you asked me or anything, but I feel compelled to tell you how *I* feel about cookbooks! It is their fault that I don't read a recipe all the way through before attempting it. Hence the Almond Roca bars that came out like pools of dripping butter last night. Okay. so that was a box mix...but C'MON!! ;)

PS -- didn't you recenlty use a very cool anitmated icon of a hypnosis-swami guy? That was too neat :)
