Diamonds aren’t a girl’s best friend,
Nor anyone’s but profiteers’.
They’re actually not half as rare
As claimed by sellers like De Beers,
Which gather all that they can get
To make a phony short supply
And charge exorbitant amounts
And maybe milk the buyers dry.
What’s more, the diamond wedding ring
Does not go back that far in time.
Again, the sellers made that up.
And need I mention all the crime
That puts a lot of diamonds in
The marketplace despite the rules?
Perhaps that’s why the diamond is
The birthstone for the month of fools.
