I first was called “uncle” around age ten
By my sister’s animal toys.
More than twenty years later, I heard it again
From the first of my cousin’s boys.
But it wasn’t until a month ago
That the label truly applied.
Now thanks to my sister and brother-in-law,
I take avuncular pride.
