I had a pretty busy workday yesterday, which may have fostered the silliness of my evening daydreaming. But then, it's hard to tell with me.

First, walking home from the metro, I imagined an unorthodox hot dog vendor for no particular reason. Specifically, I imagined him dunking the dog and bun into a jar of mustard before handing it, mustard side forward, to the customer. This image might be useful in an ad for a company that wants to emphasize its contrastingly good service. (No, I will not consider that career for myself.)

Later, while doing a crossword full of Bible excerpts, I suddenly imagined Cathy, from the eponymous comic strip, in the Garden of Eden. I don't know why I thought of it -- I don't read or pay much mind to the comic, and the Fall wasn't even referenced in the puzzle collection yet -- but here's what I conceived to be filling her thought bubbles:

Don't eat the apple. Don't eat the apple. Well, I guess a lick won't make a difference. Uh oh, I think my incisor made a dent. Maybe it won't be noticeable if I make dents all around. Ack, that's too much! Better eat the uppermost skin off. Ack, it's another color underneath! Better eat the whole apple! Better swallow the core to remove all evidence! ACK, HERE HE COMES! [chomp chomp chomp chomp]...

Hideous, I know.

Thanks for the two capital letters of appreciation! I used to be less selective in my comic reading, so I've seen many "Cathy" episodes over the years. The dialog here was based directly on a rerun cartoon in which Electra picks up Cathy's habit with regard to a pair of boots. But for the last maybe decade, I've very rarely looked.

I haven't seen the "Simpsons" episode you describe. Were the characters slightly out of character, like in the Halloween episodes? Homer seems more likely to have bitten the apple before his wife.

He did. And then implicated Marge so she got kicked out instead of him. I can't remember how it goes from there. They were actually all dream sequences so they were supposed to be goofy like that. :)
