I was planning to post here earlier in the week, but it's been exceptionally busy. I even went in early on Monday and Tuesday, something I've never done before for any job. My evenings just got filled with other activities.
The result: I relearned that a busy day has me going home cheerful. Sure, during the day, I don't perceive myself to be enjoying life any more than usual. I keep looking for a break. But when I don't get one, the time flies just as much and I am fulfilled.
Some updates:
1. In my last class, we each drew two other students' faces. I made bad choices of angles: my models spent more time looking at either their own drawings or their own models. Nevertheless, before long, the instructor had little constructive criticism for me and kept saying, "Good." The hardest parts came from (1) wispy curly hair that was part blonde and part brunette and (2) glasses, complete with moving reflection. Apart from that, I'm quite satisfied with my results. They said I was the best model because I moved little besides my eyes, altho I did sometimes lick my lips in concentration. Drawings of me ranged from a Halloween mask to a handsome young FDR profile. Meanwhile, my first model, a teen, laughed when he saw my drawing of him and announced, "I look like a caveman! Can I keep it?"
2. More gustatory experiments. Over the weekend, I tried my shrimp noodle soup partly with red pepper and partly with parmesan. The former was a little hotter than I like; I'll stick to black. The parmesan tasted nice, but the taste stayed with me until dinner and I got tired of it.
Last night I discovered that the jelly had gone bad. No big loss -- I was getting sick of bilberry anyway -- but it gave me the impetus to try something else. At first I thought a peanut butter and banana sandwich sounded too pedestrian, but I doubted I'd like honey instead. Today it turns out I love the PBB. On the more unique side (Elvis wasn't known for this), I put salsa on my English muffin this morning. It's hard to ruin good salsa, and the weak muffin taste didn't come close. You know what? I wonder if I'll ever open a jelly jar again.
More's to come, but it deserves its own entry.

DH made some wonderful corn cakes with herbed butter for my b-day dinner. YUM!
