The chimpanzees and bonobos diverged quite long ago
But still are tough to tell apart. I think I’ll help you know.
They’re pretty much the same in height, but bonobos weigh less,
With thinner upper bodies, most distinctly in the chests.
Their arms and legs are longer, and their heads are small and round,
With faces black and lips of pink. They make a higher sound.
That said, the biggest differences are seen in how they act.
The chimps use tools more often, as when nutshells must be cracked.
They’re far more territorial and have an alpha male.
For bonobos, the rule is that the ladies will prevail.
They’re also big on mating to release their social tension.
It must work well: Compared with chimps, their fights don’t rate a mention.
I think I like the bonobos much better, but alas,
They’re all the more endangered, and their numbers dwindle fast.
