My office building today had a fire alarm, which is not unusual. This time, however, I saw people using the nearest door to my office's entrance, which I never realized led to a stairwell. For nearly a year, I've been descending the farther staircase without need.

Gives you an idea how much attention I pay to my surroundings, doesn't it? Were I a wild animal, I surely wouldn't last a week.

OTOH, it seemed like everyone on every floor was using the same stairwell. The result was a slow walk with many full stops. So perhaps I shouldn't forget my old routine altogether.

Or, you would last a very long time indeed, as the predator would always be waiting in the near stairwell.

Good point. Unless I were a predator myself, in which case I might let too many targets go by.
