Wash and Learn

Raccoons are known to dunk their food in water ere they eat.
Despite what you might think, the purpose isn’t to be neat.
The water may be filthy, and the eaters hardly care.
So what’s the motivation for the so-called “washing bear”?
Of animals, raccoons possess the strongest sense of touch.
A barrier develops so they don’t get hurt too much.
It softens when immersed to let them know the food quite well,
Much better than they could with merely vision, taste, and smell.
