Déjà Vu

While most of us have had at least one case of déjà vu,
Some get it much more often. You’re more liable if you
Are age 15 to 25, have higher education,
Make higher income, travel to a lot of destinations,
Are liberal, or have a better memory for dreams.
But if it happens more than twice a year for you, it seems
You’d better look for other signs of medical disorders,
Like seizures, headaches, weakness, and confusion, say reporters.
You might be just distracted or in need of extra sleep,
Yet déjà vu’s more common on the weekends (what the bleep?).
A high amount of dopamine or even drugs for flu,
Amantadine and Proin, are known to bring on déjà vu.
You may have split perception thanks to visual obstruction.
Perhaps there’s been a misfire in your memory production,
Wherein a new experience gets filtered as “long-term.”
Your medial temporal lobes’ performance is unfirm.
There may be similarities to something that you’ve seen,
Or else it happens randomly, espec’ly for a teen.
But elders might get false familiarity as much
Without the same conviction to identify as such.
It’s not that they’re demented; it’s what aging people do.
So I for one still welcome each new case of déjà vu.
