Last Saturday night, my family heard a mash-up session on the radio. Mash-ups, as I learned, are two songs melded together in an overlap. A good example was Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" interwoven with vocal excerpts from Oasis's "Wonderwall." The DJ used a lot of raps, which I think are too easy for mash-ups, but they were fun when the other song was an unlikely suspect. We had to laugh when he took a rap that included the word "99" in the chorus and set it against "99 Luftballons." What next, "Dancing Queen"?

After I came up with a couple possibilities for other (non-rap) mash-ups, my mom suggested that I make a meme out of it. I'm not sure how well this'll work — they have to be close in tempo, key, and rhythm to be good — but let me provide my independent examples:

1. Blues Traveler's "Run-around" x Sister Hazel's "All for You"
2. Credence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising" x Elton John's "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" (his own rendition)
3. Steve Miller's "The Joker" x Tom Petty's "You Don't Know How It Feels"

If you don't think you can come up with a good mash-up, try thinking of one that would be especially bad. ;-P
