Quadrupdate

deckardcanine1. Last week took no time in getting me agonized over my Lenten self-denials. It brought to mind a quote from Keeping the Faith: "I quit smoking two years ago; now when somebody lights up, I want to French-kiss 'em just to get the smoke out of their mouth!" But the pangs also left more quickly than I expected. After enjoying a little game and forum time on Sunday, I realized how little I was truly missing. Not that I won't bother next Sunday.
2. With fewer ways to fill my free time, I have indeed gotten a little more creative lately. It was about time I'd tried out Finale, a music-making software program basically superior to my old PlayMusic. I also have started developing ideas for a fantasy story whose medium I have yet to decide.
3. The March page on my bedroom calendar shows a fish hovering over a brook about three inches from a grizzly bear's muzzle. Nature calendar photos don't normally look so...doctored to me, but it's hard to accept a fish being so careless, suicidal, or unfortunate as that, and just in time for the photographer. It's also hard to picture the scene in motion: I get the impression that time has stopped for the both of them in their awe. After looking at the photo a while, I imagined a fuzzy-edged circle around their faces and the sound of Elvis singing, "Give me one...moment in time...."
And as long as I'm being silly:
4. SEVENTY-SOMETHING-FAHRENHEITY SHORTSLEEVY CLEARWEATHER HOWMIGONNAWORK YAAAAYYYYYYY!
Ahem. Tomorrow would be a good day to get my haircut.
