After a special Bible study group meeting last night, I headed over to my folks' house, where they and some family friends were watching election coverage. Apparently it's a good thing I didn't come sooner, when my dad's vivaciously opinionated (and openly gay) coworker reacted to the downfall of Rick Santorum. My ears might have hurt from that.

Anyone else surprised at how close Foley came? Just comes to show how strongly Republican that area is.

My eyes were primarily on the text at the bottom of the screen rather than the speakers. As it happens, the wide screen was distorting their images. But neither of those factors kept me from noting a fashion faux pas or two. Perhaps I watch the Academy Awards too much.

Being the linguist that I am, I paid special attention to the names. There were obvious things like Bobo (showing up right before Beebe), Whitehouse, Ross v. Ross and Sexton v. Saxton, the Dem named Gay losing, the Dem named Weed losing, the Republican with the Middle Eastern name losing, New York having the most non-Anglo names, Slaughter slaughtering the competition... but I became particularly interested in running themes.

How many berries were there? I noted Berry, Thornberry, Huckleberry, Fortenberry, in a pinch Bradbury... and I'm sure I forget one. What a fruity bunch in our government. Then there's Bass, Byrd, Duck, Foxx, Hare, Katz, Stagg, Swann, Wolf, Woodcock -- this is ignoring close sounds like Whalen. What a bunch of animals.
