Hoo boy. I went to Safeway last night and found the milk understocked -- no skim. Since I used to drink 1% all the time, and often 2% in college, I figured there'd be no problem with the 1% under the brand name Horizon Organic.

But after trying it, I double-checked that it was real milk and not a substitute. It's not nearly at the expiration date of January 3, either. So WHY DOES IT MAKE ME GRIMACE? It's pure white, but if I drank it blindfolded, I'd tell you it was bad water.

Horizon got some splainin to do.

As a general rule, "organic" means "expensive and tastes bad". I usually buy organic tortilla chips, but that's about it.

What the cows eat has a huge effect on how the milk tastes. Indoor cows usually get corn meal, outdoor cows usually get grass. Grass milk doesn't taste as good as corn milk.

Perhaps a more important keyword that I found on the carton is "ultra-pasteurized." :P
