Over the weekend, I heard a squeaky sound upstairs. At first I thought one of the kids was making it, or perhaps one of their toys, but the snippets of conversation told me that it was a real kitten. I wanted to meet it, but I wasn't sure how to be polite about it as a tenant.

The opportunity came when I asked my landlord whether he had seen any GAMES Magazine issues that might have been meant for me (they're overdue, dangit). I then asked to see the kitten, and he kindly obliged.

...
Two kittens! Both girls, but from different litters. The four-week-old orange one, June, does most of the talking. I felt like I should have picked her up with an ice cream scooper. The six-week-old black one, July, is not as easy about getting picked up, but she does like to play with both June and humans. Good thing her claws are too short to hurt yet.

The two were lying on a towel, presumably because they weren't reliable about the litter box yet. Eventually their litter will be moved to the laundry room, so I'll be seeing them with no need to ask. I rather look forward to them growing, because as adorable as the babies are now, they should be more cuddlable with more substance.
