Looks like they're shooting part of a movie or TV show a block from my building. The area's not cordoned off, but police stood by as I passed a couple big cameras, a light (since the scene was somewhat shaded), and someone in a director's chair. There was no action at the moment, but a line of ordinary-looking people stood ready to enter a building. I thought of asking someone what I was seeing, but it seemed rude.
Living in DC, I know of many occasions that someone's routine was rather pleasantly disrupted by the making of TV and film. It wasn't so pleasant when the junior high I would later attend had all its scenes cut from True Lies, but my former elementary school got paid renovation for "Bill Nye." More personally, my dad got to preview part of Minority Report outside his office. He says they did a heck of a lot of takes for an unremarkable three seconds (hey, it's Spielberg). Didn't exactly meet the director or Tom Cruise, but he saw them mobbed a few yards away. I told a co-worker about this, and he said that his dad's building was used in the fairly similar Enemy of the State. Funny.
I hope to find out later what was going on near my office. I doubt it'll be as big as any of the above, but it's nice to know these things.

A show filmed a segment not too far from where I used to live, back when I lived there.
I don't remember what it was called, though.
I'd even managed to tape a copy of the episode to see what was filmed where and stuff.
Way cool.
