In your opinion, who's worse: (A) someone who does something bad, tries to hide it, and publicly rails against the practice; or (B) someone who does something bad and acts like there's no problem with the practice?

Hypocrisy seems to be one of the most universally hated offenses. Not just these days, either -- depending on the sin in question, Dante would probably assign person A the worse fate. Nevertheless, I choose B. At least A means to limit the overall damage, possibly even bringing about more good than bad.

But maybe this is a moot point. It's best to be neither A nor B.

I'm not fond of liars, whether against a practice or against themselves. I think it's marginally worse to lie about oneself, therefore A is worse. But there's no real gain in arguing about the relative merits of two cow pies.

I'd go with B. being worse as well.

A. reflects badly on A., but enough B.'s will make the bad behavior tolerated in society.
