Roger Ebert now opposes the culture of snark. And not just for movies.

So do I. That's the reason I gave up the Comics Curmudgeon: the fun I had with negativity didn't make up for the effect it was having on my overall outlook.

Ebert has written before about his relatively high ratings for movies. He recognizes that people almost never try to do things badly, and even results we consider lame tend to be pretty difficult to make. A kindred spirit, judging from the rarity with which I assign fewer than three stars on Netflix.

Snarkiness by the editorial staff is what compelled me to stop subscribing to newspapers. I don't expect everyone to share my beliefs, but I have no desire to subsidize people who mock them.

I hope you'd've made the same decision if they mocked only other beliefs.

I don't like mocking of anything. Objective, logical analysis is fine, but calling people names or dissing entire categories of people is usually a sign that the snarker has no sound argument to present.
