I realized today that gore bothers me more than sexual themes when I watch movies, yet it's the other way around for video/computer games. I considered a few possible reasons, but none really add up. Thoughts?

It's an interesting observation, I wonder if it has anything to do with my sense that those two things are often "gratuitous" in the respective mediums you mention.

Chirp has a point. Gore in movies and sex in video games tend to be tasteless and mainly put in for shock value. Sex in movies and gore in video games tend to be more artistic and refined.

When you play a video game, your main objective is usually to beat an opponent of some kind. When you watch a film, it's usually to observe characters and the relationships between them. Violence is relevant to combat, and sex is relevant to interpersonal relations.

CONFORMIST!!!!!!!!!

You've been falling into the pattern of the people around you!

*laughs at his act of pretending to be an "annoying protestor" college student*

Gore in video games has been unrealistic. Those political ones portray him almost like a robot. (Sorry, couldn't help that joke) Sexual themes have, on the other hand, been very realisticly suggestive, indirrect and leave lots up to your immagination.

When something happens just off camera in a video game, you can't help visualizing what you think is going on, a technique used by the horror experts in movies to both save costs and let each person use their own immagination. It can be tough however, to hit targets off screen, so in video games this is impractical for anything but sexual humor.

BTW, did you ever notice that in many RPGs the entire party sleeps in one bed. Is that what refills the "Magic" points?!
