Flight of Fancy

On several occasions, some fictional characters
Having the power to fly on their own
Have chosen instead to take flying contraptions
Or even plain cars when they could have just flown.

The audience tends to belittle their wisdom,
But think for a moment on why people drive.
Wherever a car can go, so can a human
On foot; it just takes a long time to arrive.

And even for short routes when speed doesn’t matter,
You might find the journey is hardly a jaunt
In terrible weather or carrying heavy stuff;
Maybe you’d exercise more than you want.

Because of this thinking, I no longer question
Why avian aliens, dragons, and such
Would hop on a plane or forgo air-based travel.
(Perhaps I have dwelt on this subject too much.)
