Thanks to Howie:

What did you do in 2004 that you'd never done before?
Sing in a church choir, among other things.

Did you keep new year's resolutions and will you make more next year?
Never made 'em. My resolutions fall on arbitrary times of the year. Those I will continue to make.

Did anyone close to you die?
My two remaining grandparents. (I confess, I never announced the death of my grandmother in October. It was a pretty quiet event for my family, and I didn't feel like making my readers needlessly sad.)

What countries did you visit?
Not even Canada this year. Too bad my family's schedules conflict too much for extended vacations.

What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?
Baptism and confirmation. They're on the horizon. I also wouldn't mind an apartment.

What dates from 2004 will remain etched in your memory and why?
May 30: College graduation.
September 23: My grandfather's funeral.
November 3: The exceptionally emotion-packed Election Day.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting my present job, maybe.

What was your biggest failure this year?
Not meeting my job's standards.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
A fever over 103 is probably the only notable one.

What was the best thing you bought?
Hard to say. Does charity spending count? I paid my way into Anthrocon and then bought some excellent artwork (in part to support the artists). I also bought "Super Smash Bros. Melee," which has been a load of fun for me, but that may be a stretch for the "best" thing.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sister's. She went to the Costa Rican rainforest for an entomology project. That requires guts in itself, but she was among the few comrades who hiked several miles in heavy rain just for fun.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
A forumite whose username and forum I shall not give here. I don't think he meant to troll, but he spent weeks showing less consideration than anyone else I've known.

What did you spend most of your spare cash on?
Charity and art.

What did you get really, really excited about?
I'm not sure I ever get that excited, but the days leading to my graduation gave me tears of joy.

What song will always remind you of 2004?
Possibly "This Land Is Your Land," thanks to that JibJab animation.

Compared to this time last year are you:

Happier or sadder?
With the slew of bummers in the last few months, as well as my relative separation from friends, sadder is more likely. But again, I don't pay much mind to my emotions.

Thinner or fatter?
Marginally thinner, I think.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Prayer. I'm starting to do it daily, but I could have used more practice.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Gaming and computer activity when I could have done reading, crosswords, or something productive.

How will you be spending Christmas?
At home with my family, probably going to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. In the meantime, there'll be a party at our house.

Did you fall in love in 2004?
My general love for humanity may have increased, but I didn't develop a crush or anything.

How many one-night-stands?
How many opposable thumbs on an octopus?

What was your favorite TV series?
"The Daily Show." Not that I ever watched a full episode of any show.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I make the point not to "hate" anyone, but maybe I only tell myself that I don't. Either way, I can't think of any likely new additions.

What was the last book you read?
Lynne Truss's "Eats, Shoots and Leaves."

What was your greatest musical discovery?
"Honk" is a pretty nice musical.

What did you want and get?
A diploma, various games, a social with Bill Holbrook, and an editing job.

What did you want and not get?
Baptism. The church I attended at Oberlin was too new and cheap to secure a place after trying for about eight months.

What was your favorite film this year?
Released in 2004? "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."

What did you do on your birthday and how old are you?
I had a nice college weekend and am 22.

What one thing would've made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
More political unity.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2004?
Grr, oh fine, I'll dress a little less casually just to please you guys.

What kept you sane?
Faith.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I really can't decide.

What political issue has stirred you the most?
Abortion. It was very difficult for me to disagree with my family on it.

Who did you miss?
Obie friend Patrick Schwemmer.

Who was the best new person you met this year?
Maybe co-trainee Mike Lerman. He's good for funny conversations.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004.
Do not, do NOT, be judgmental.
