How was it that a grizzly bear
Could find it in his heart to share
His cave and other property
With a human child no more than three?

He did have practice with a mutt
And even one bad vulture, but
A toddler’s not a simple friend,
Demanding care for years on end.

The girl in question worked her charms
By taking in her stubby arms
The bear and dog, but not the bird,
Who said to keep her was absurd.

“Deranged,” “delinquent,” and “defective”
All wound up in his invective.
Much to his chagrin did he
Inspire a name for little Dee.

The day would come when they would find
The parents whom she left behind.
Until that day, the bear was ready
Ever more to be her teddy.
