FreeRice has revised its site. At first I didn't like the changes, because I couldn't test into vocabulary level 50 with just five items anymore, and it restarts from level 1 every time you visit. (You'd think that logging in could prevent that. Heck, it doesn't even have an option for automatic login.) But you can select the level directly, so I was being picky.

Furthermore, it's not just English vocabulary anymore. You can have similar multiple-choice tests in which you identify words in French, German, Italian, or Spanish (starting with cognates, natch). Or match chemical symbols to elements, capitals to countries, countries on a map to names, or paintings to painters. If I were concerned only with the donation and not a self-challenge, I would continue with the math test; instead I find it too easy, failing only when I get tired and misread something. I do NOT recommend the English grammar test, because not only is the two-choicer too easy for me, but at least one item has been misprogrammed: No matter which answer you click, it thinks you got it wrong.

These alternative tests do not go up to level 60, only 10. They also don't have thousands of items available; you may even get the same one twice in a row, albeit with the choices shuffled. Nevertheless, I now find myself amassing the rice faster as well as learning more trivia.
