Princessed out
On Friday, I attended the last night of my former junior high's production of Beauty and the Beast, for which my mom directed the music and played the piano while my sister played the synthesizer. The main problem was cut funding for microphones, so lesser parts had lines I kept missing. The best part was Belle. Despite being small even for a sixth grader, she has the best singing voice of any junior high student I've ever heard. Some objects' costumes were hard to identify (what can you do for napkins?), but the main duo wore their ballroom outfits better than the cartoon characters did.
In retrospect, this wasn't the best weekend to put Tangled at the top of the Netflix queue. It's not as comically divergent from the Disney formula as the ad led me to expect, even if I knew it was no Enchanted, let alone Shrek. Still cute and pretty, both visually and aurally.
In between those viewings, I watched the season finale of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic." It includes the nominal princess Celestia of Equestria, who, as a queenly demigoddess, is ironically the least petite of the lot. It also includes more than one song, which is unusual for the show.
Oh, and I saved Zelda again in Ocarina of Time. At least the game doesn't make me feel androgynous, nor does it have any singing. Nevertheless, it took less than half the weekend for me to get princessed out. Maybe I'll watch Total Recall or something.
