A Sonnet on Resolutions
I’ve never gone for New Year’s resolutions.
It’s not that I don’t care enough to change
Or dread that I would fail their executions.
I simply find the timing kind of strange.
When I decide I have to self-improve,
I make my resolution then and there,
Regardless of the date, and make no move
To set a one-year deadline to compare.
I don’t insist my method works the best
For everyone or even just for me,
But failure rates are high among the rest,
As humor writers constantly agree.
That said, this old tradition for the day
Is good enough to honor anyway.
