Ravens and Crows

They’re notorious birds, but not everyone knows
Of the differences found between ravens and crows.
Well, the ravens are larger and travel in pairs,
While the crows prefer flocks a bit bigger than theirs.
The crow’s tail feathers look like a fan as it flies,
While the raven’s resemble a wedge to our eyes.
The raven will also ride thermals and soar,
While the crow is required to flap a bit more.
It is common for ravens to hop while they walk.
When they call, it’s no caw but a rattling squawk.
In terms of the beaks, you may rightly observe
That a raven’s is bigger with more of a curve
And with much longer bristles upon the beak’s base,
Plus the shaggy throat feathers adjoining its face.
Some other distinctions pertain to location.
You’d best check a map for precise information,
But crows are more likely to come to a city
And root through a trash can (that sight isn’t pretty).
I’m no ornithologist; nevertheless,
All these facts ought to sort out that crow-raven mess.
