The Curious Thing About Dennis the Menace
The curious thing about Dennis the Menace:
There’s two who debuted the same day.
The better-known one’s from Hank Ketcham, U.S.;
David Law made the version U.K.
We’re sure neither artist could copy the other;
They worked with an ocean between.
Besides, the two menaces aren’t much alike:
One’s naïve while the other is mean.
And even if somehow one knew of the other,
What good would it do him to steal?
It causes confusion and hinders their rights.
Does the rhyme provide that much appeal?
The British strip now is called Dennis and Gnasher
But could have retained its old title.
This highlights a problem with plagiarist cases:
To prove them is tricky but vital.
