And now my home Net access is working again, without an adapter replacement and without my landlord or anyone else having to do a thing. Maybe it just needed a rest. Maybe it took a slight repositioning of the antenna when I unplugged the CPU, pulled it out, and tried to find a way to open it. (That was a good incentive to clean the spot where the CPU sits.) My current signal strength is "very low," but it's definitely fast enough for me.

If I don't lose access again, I'll have to debate whether to send the new adapter back, keep it on hand just in case, or do my best to install it as soon as possible.

Thoughts?

That sounds like a rather peculiar problem, have you tried restarting the wireless hub?
(saving settings and all that if it's a hard reset)

How about adjusting the antennas?
Something might be poorly seated, that would definitely be a problem...
