Until today, I always assumed that Chrono Trigger and its sequel Chrono Cross were shooter games, most likely of the first-person persuasion. Now I know they're RPGs along the lines of Final Fantasy, from the same company. If only the "Trigger" hadn't thrown me off, I could've enjoyed at least one of them before they got hard to find.

One more addition to my list of popular video games with imperfect titles.

Chrono Trigger is available in a Nintendo DS and a PlayStation1 version as well as the SNES cartridge. All seem to available new or used.

It's probably the most emotionally satisfying video game I've ever played, definitely worth the $20. "Chrono Trigger" is actually an alternate name for the Time Egg which plays a major role near the middle of the game.

I've heard the sequel was not quite as good but still worth playing.

Darn, if it's on the DS, then it'll never be WiiWare. I might get the SNES version, but I haven't plugged in that system in years. Then again, the reason I stopped (aside from the fun of the Wii) was that I encountered a certain bug in FFVI, which I recently learned was common to early copies and easy enough to avoid. My SNES probably still works fine.

FWIW, it's the only old console I've saved to this day. I got my fill of the NES, the only games I loved on the N64 were available in The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition, and the Wii plays Gamecube discs.

Was that the Sketch bug? Usually the playtesters catch that stuff, but sometimes a crash bug sneaks in.

SNES is my all-time favorite game console, so many different kinds of awesome games were developed for it.

Yes, it was the Sketch bug. Never happened during my first two play-throughs. Oh well, I never thought much of Sketch -- but Control rules.

Chrono Trigger is largely considered a masterpiece of the RPG world; I'm not a drooling fanboy, it's kinda nerdy and overdone in places, but it's a pretty good game and I do recommend it.

Its sequel, Chrono Cross, is nerdy and overdone in a slightly different way, and quickly becomes very, very, VERY complicated, to the point where discussions over the plot line start to look like discussions of the film Donnie Darko. I can't say I recommend this one, but I will say that the music for it is amazing (except for the battle theme, which quickly becomes grating).
