Is it just me, or has 2011 been a subpar year for animated films? The most popular I can think of is Kung Fu Panda 2, which I haven't seen yet. Meanwhile, the Academy Best Animated Feature winner (Happy Feet) and prime runner-up (Cars) from 2006 both have had underwhelming sequels this year. Rio is above average for Blue Sky but still an unlikely pick. Puss in Boots is mainly just cute. I know of nothing from foreign studios coming out before 2012.
If Europeans' sentiment is anything to go by, The Adventures of Tintin should have very little award competition.

Tintin is motion-capture animation, which puts in on par with rotoscoping as art, in my opinion. I don't plan to see it in theaters unless it gets excellent reviews. Maybe an excellent story can save it from unpleasant animation.
