Mother Nature's Mothers

Most animal mamas are only so kind
To the offspring, not likely to leave them behind
While they’re young and dependent, but as they get older,
The moms’ interactions get markedly colder.
By early adulthood, the kid might as well
Be a stranger for all that the parent can tell.
Am I glad that that’s not what most humans will do,
Because, Mom, I still love to keep contact with you!
