Have you ever seen slush in a movie? At first I thought its absence was for aesthetic reasons, but when you consider how far from aesthetic many movies are today...

And how about snow appearing only in patches, like it had been melting for a while? Or snow falling but not sticking?

Documentaries don't count, mind. Tho I don't recall seeing any of the above in those, either.

As you probably figured, the lack of slush in movies is generally at product of the snow being fake. In LA and Vancouver, B.C., the two places most television shows and movies are shot in North America, there is very little very little snow fall during the year. Movies makers also like to keep their sets static so using an artificial median, such a crushed marble, which helps the keeps thing from changing from shot to shot.

Another reason is that there is a certain mystic about snow falling and not so much about it melting. For that, I personally blame Christmas songs.

It's been observed that whenever someone kisses in a Christmas movie, there has to be snow falling.
